Adoption Update!

FOALS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AT WILD HORSE SANCTUARY
Saturday, October 24, 2009

Take Home a Lovable Symbol of the American West

Approximately 20 wild horse colts and fillies will be available for adoption on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Wild Horse Sanctuary, located at: 5796 Wilson Hill Road, Shingletown, CA 96088 near Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Adoptions get underway at 8:00 a.m. with a silent bid auction, with horses not selected during the auction offered on a first-come, first-serve basis until 3:00 p.m. Available for viewing on Wednesday, October 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the healthy foals range in age from 3 to 12 months and were recently weaned from their mothers.

The annual adoption program is a humane way for the Wild Horse Sanctuary to effectively manage its herd of approximately 300 wild mustangs and burros. To qualify, potential adopters must meet certain criteria, have the ability and financial means to care for a wild horse, and undergo an interview with Wild Horse Sanctuary staff to ensure their facilities are adequate for accommodating a wild horse, and that they understand adoption regulations.

"With love and care, the foals will grow to be intelligent, sure-footed and loyal," stated Dianne Nelson, Co-Founder, Wild Horse Sanctuary, "and with a little patience and proper training, they will become great companions."

Horse Adoption Success Story

Hello,

I have attached some photos of a 3 year old gelding adopted from you as a weanling. He is now one of my most trustworthy horses and is an amazing addition to our herd. He is the horse that our beginner friends LOVE to ride :) You are more than welcome to use some photos of him on your site as an example of what these horses are being used for. The third picture was taken at a friends ranch when he had only 8 rides on him. We were helping to bring in a herd of nearly 100 head of cattle and we came to a place where we had to herd them through a small gate. Cash and I were part of the group that was supposed to catch the herd and make sure they did not pass the gate instead of going through it. Just before the herd reached us a few cows split off from the group and the other riders with us took off to catch them. Meanwhile Cash and I had the entire herd of 100 cows mooing and bleating rushing towards us.

Poor Cash was so intimidated that his whole body shook, but I pet his neck and told him easy and bless his heart he held the line and pushed every single cow through the gate by himself! Truly, once a Mustang puts his trust in you they will do anything and go anywhere. Many other colts I have started would have left me in the dust to push the cows in myself.

Thank you for these amazing horses.
